Karnataka will have low-cost eat-outs similar to Tamil Nadu's Amma canteens

Chief Mminister Siddaramaiah has announced “Namma Canteen” for Bengaluru city, on the lines of Amma Canteens in Tamil Nadu, in his State budget presentation. The budget has announced that the subsidised canteens will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to the common man at an affordable price.

These canteens will serve breakfast at ₹5 and lunch and dinner at ₹ 10, the Chief Minister has announced. For the initiative, ₹100 crore has been earmarked. One Namma Canteen will be set in each of 198 wards in Bengaluru city.

The initiative has been in the pipeline for at least two years now. C.M. Ibrahim, vice chairman, planning commission, Karnataka, had first proposed the move.
