Basava Kendra of Hubballi (Gokul Road) has embarked on an ambitious project of establishing “Basava Samskruti Shaale”, a school to disseminate the message of 12th century social reformer Basavanna, and make the students imbibe the “Basava culture”.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, president of Basava Kendra B.V. Shirur said that along with the school, a library dedicated to Basava philosophy, personality development centre, and Basava Bhavana will come up in an area of one acre allotted by the Hubballi Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) at Rayanal on Gokul Road on the periphery of Hubballi.
The inauguration of the school and the foundation stone laying will be done by Sri Siddeshwara Swami of Jnana Yogashrama, Vijayapura, at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the presence of a host of religious heads from various mutts of north Karnataka. Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar, district-in-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni, Pralhad Joshi, MP, the former Minister, Basavaraj Horatti, and others will participate.
Professor Shirur said that the Basava Kendra, which has been organising various programmes on a regular basis, was striving to spread the message of Basavanna, who treated members of all community and genders equal and advocated the philosophy of works is worship.
Other office-bearers of the kendra, including G.B. Halyal, S.V. Pattanashetti, Laxmikanth Patil, M.V. Gongadashettar, Raju Aneppanavar, and Basavaraj Yaklaspur gave details of the works that will be initiated and listed out the previous activities. Mr. Gongadshettar said that philanthropists have come forward to fund the ₹13-crore project and elected representatives and the State government too have assured of sanctioning funds for the building.
