The Sate government has decided to hold another round counselling to fill 93 MBBS seats under its quota.

Minister of State for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil told reporters here on Sunday that counselling would be held on September 17, 18 and 19 to fill the 93 seats. A list of selected students would be announced on September 20.

The decision to hold counselling was taken to ensure meritorious students got government seats. The selected students have to seek admission before September 24. If the seats remain unfilled, another round of counselling would be held before the month-end, he said.

According to the Supreme Court directive, he said, September 30 was the last date for admissions to MBBS course. If the seats remained vacant after September 30, the department would seek the opinion of the Legal Department and hold another round of counselling, Mr. Patil said.

The department had written to private medical colleges and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to take steps to provide seats under the government quota for meritorious students.

To a question on irregularities in admissions to postgraduate courses of the RGUHS, Mr. Patil said a probe would be conducted to punish to those involved in the wrongdoing.

He said all issues pertaining to fees and admissions to medical, dental and engineering courses would be resolved next year as the government had decided to implement the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act, 2006 from 2014–15.
