The organisers of the skygazing event had put up mobile toilets, loud speakers, erected pergolas and revellers partied till 5 a.m. on Sunday, but no action was taken and the matter came to light only after the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) registered a complaint against a Bengaluru-based event management company with the KRS police station.
‘Aestro Tours and Travels’ of Kanakadasa Layout near Lingarajapuram in Bengaluru had allegedly organised the skygazing event on Saturday according to the complaint.
The participants, during the ‘all-night party’, had allegedly consumed liquor and danced to loud music.
On Monday, Sangamesh, Executive Engineer of the CNNL (KRS Division) filed a complaint against the company and told The Hindu: “The participants had also polluted the area by throwing liquor bottles.”
A senior police officer at the KRS station, which is situated near the spot, claimed he was unaware of liquor consumption at the party.
When contacted by The Hindu , Mandya Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, said the participants had consumed liquor at party. “The event was illegal and the department will conduct an inquiry. The organisers had installed speakers and music systems. They had not obtained police permission to organise the event,” Mr. Borase said. At least 400 empty liquor bottles were found at the place after they left, according to officials.
Under threat
The reservoir constructed across the Cauvery had been under a security blanket since the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) of Sri Lanka had threatened to blow up the KRS. It has been also facing threats from Pakistan-based militant organisations. Thus, organising events or entering the reservoir premises without permission had been banned.
Residents seek action
Meanwhile, the village residents demanded action against the Police and Irrigation Department officials concerned for their alleged inaction in preventing such an event in the backwaters.
