Advani makes a quick visit to Bangalore

He avoids media and any reference to politics

Bharatiya Janata Party veteran leader L.K. Advani made a quick visit to Bangalore on Saturday. He took part in a programme organised by the Sri Jayarama Seva Mandali to felicitate centenarian lexicologist G. Venkatasubbaiah.

Mr. Advani, whose visit to the city comes a day after the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa attacked the party high command and party national general secretary Ananth Kumar, chose not to make any political comments in his speech. He confined himself to issues related to the literary world and Prof. Venkatasubbaiah in his address at the function.

After the programme, he evaded the waiting media, who were keen to know his response to Mr. Yeddyurappa’s remarks. The police built a security cordon around Mr. Advani and whisked him away from them. Accompanied by Mr. Ananth Kumar, the former Deputy Prime Minister only greeted the media.

Interestingly, most of the leaders from the Yeddyurappa camp did not bother to attend the function with the exception of Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

But speculation was rife that Mr. Bommai attended it only for consultations regarding the Cauvery water issue with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who was the guest at this programme.
