The Karnataka High Court got two new additional judges on Tuesday. Nangli Krishnarao Sudhindrarao (left in picture) and Hosur Bhujangaraya Prabhakara Sastry were sworn in as additional judges on their elevation from the cadre of district judges.
With this, the total strength of judges in the High Court is 31, which is 50% of the total sanctioned strength of 62. Born in on December 4, 1959 at Bangarpet in Kolar district, Justice Sudhindrarao secured his degree in law and enrolled as an advocate in 1984, and was practising law in various courts in Kolar and Bengaluru till he was selected to the post of district judge on May 27, 2005.
Besides serving in various districts, he has served as judge of the Special Lokayukta Court in Bengaluru. He had ordered investigation against many political leaders under the Prevention of Corruption Act based on many private complaints and had sentenced former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to prison by taking him into judicial custody in a corruption case. He was serving as Registrar (Recruitments) of the High Court till his elevation.
Justice Prabhakara Sastry, born on April 4, 1962, had enrolled as an advocate in 1991 after securing MA and LLM degrees. Besides practising law in the chambers of former solicitor general of India and former State advocate general A.N. Jayaram, he was teaching in different law colleges as a guest faculty till he was selected to the post of district judge on May 27, 2005. He was awarded by the State award from the Kannada Development Authority in 2008 for delivering judgements in Kannada and a Ph.D by the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru for this thesis “Domestic arbitration and judicial involvement under Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996.”
He had also has served as Registrar of Supreme Court on deputation, and as Registrar (Vigilance) and Registrar (Administration) of the High Court. He was serving as Presiding Officer of the Karnataka State Transport Appellate Tribunal, Bengaluru, till his elevation.
