The Belagavi International Kite Festival is back for the sixth consecutive year and all set to fill the skies over the city with hundreds of colourful kites in different shapes and sizes for two days from January 21.
Announcing the details of the event, event organiser Abhay Patil of Parivartan Parivar, said here on Sunday that the two-day kite festival was part of a four-day fest, which included an inter-state Youth Festival ‘Umang’ and ‘Women’s Festival’, which would be held on January 17 and 18.
Around 2 lakh people from all age groups from Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra have been visiting these events every year, said Mr. Patil.
Mr. Patil said international kite flyers from 17 countries viz. Canada, United Kingdom, Estonia, Germany, Malaysia, Argentina, Russia, Brazil, Australia, France, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Belgium; and 22 national level flyers from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat will be participating in the fest. Stunt and miniature kites will be two new attractions this year, and there may even be “foam kites”. Both days, illuminated kites will be flown at night.
Balloon festival
In response to huge demands by children and parents, the balloon festival had been incorporated for the second time this year.
Various competitions for children, women and college students, including fancy dress competition, dance competition, cooking and salad dressing competition will be organised.
