P. Rajendra Cholan, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, has said that arrangements have been completed for the smooth conduct of polling in the four Assembly constituencies in the district.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said 955 polling stations had been set up in the district, and of this 172 had been identified as hypersensitive and 190 sensitive.
Paramilitary forces, the local police, and Home Guards would be deployed at all polling stations. Besides, 66 mobile teams would patrol the areas till the end of polling.
As many as 5,822 government employees and bank staff have been drafted for election duty. A total of 138 government buses and 118 private vehicles would be used to move pollequipment and personnel. An all-out effort is being made to increase voter participation and achieve at least 75 per cent polling in the district. During the 2008 Assembly elections, the turnout was 56.3 per cent. There are 8,01,900 voters in the district.
So far, 34 violations of the model code of conduct have been booked. A total of Rs 33.16 lakh and 1,110 litres of liquor, worth over Rs. 25 lakh, have been seized.
