The police have rounded up four persons alleged to have gang-raped a 21-year-old law student in Bangalore University’s Jnanabharathi campus on Saturday night.

They were part of an eight-member gang involved in the crime.

Sources in the police said the four, who were picked up on Monday, were being interrogated. Five teams have been formed to probe the incident.

The police were of the opinion that those involved in the assault were well-versed with the topography of the campus. While the involvement of persons on the campus has not been ruled out, sources said the gang members could also be former students of the university.

All the members of the gang were conversing in Kannada, it was learnt. The victim’s friend, who accompanied her on the night of the alleged assault, went along with the police to the crime scene to help reconstruct the sequence of events.

Meanwhile, the student is said to have returned to the hostel on the law school campus. The police are awaiting the report from the forensic laboratory.
