Fire in Thane dyeing unit

A fire broke out shortly before midnight at a dyeing unit in the power loom town of Bhiwandi, police said today.

PSI Prashant Nagtilak of Bhoiwada police station said the fire broke around 11.30 pm at the Modi Dying company at Dhamankar Naka of the town.

More than a dozen fire tenders from Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation, Thane Municipal Corporation, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath MIDC, Kalyan Dombivili Municipal Corporation were pressed into service to fight the flames, which was brought under control at about 7.30 am.

There was no loss of life in the incident. The cause of fire is said to be short circuit. The flames engulfed the entire unit within minutes and destroyed it, the police officer said.
