Peaceful industrial relations and employee welfare have been the top priority of the management of The Hindu . Commercial interests, revenue or profits came later, N. Murali, Co-Chairman of Kasturi & Sons Ltd., said here on Thursday.
Addressing employees on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of The Hindu Office & National Press Employees’ Union, Mr. Murali regretted that these very values were the biggest casualty during the past two years the company was run by outside professionals. Qualified Directors were also professionals and should not be kept out of the management of the company. Outside professionals do not understand the values, culture, and ethos of the company.
Thanking the union for its continued “cooperation and understanding,” he said the demonstration of support by the employees meant that the Directors had to unite. “If all of you stand united, the management has no option but to remain united.”
Union representatives from various departments of The Hindu , including outstation units, felicitated the Directors of Kasturi & Sons Ltd., Malini Parthasarathy, who is Editor of The Hindu , K. Venugopal, Ramesh Rangarajan, Vijaya Arun and Lakshmi Srinath.
Earlier, E. Gopal, Union president, expressed the wish that the 135-year-old newspaper that had recently fulfilled a long-cherished dream of launching a Tamil daily would go on to launch newspapers in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
M. Kamalanathan, Union general secretary, thanked the management for implementing the Union’s demand for bonus and hiking other perks.
