Arunima Sinha alias Sonu, the sportswoman who lost her leg after being pushed from a moving train, was on Saturday shifted to a Lucknow hospital for further treatment, a senior health department official said here.
“Arunima was shifted to Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University this morning for fixing an artificial limb as the facility is not available here,” Chief Medical Superintendent of district hospital Vijay Yadav said.
Arunima had undergone at the Bareilly district hospital since April 12 and her condition was stable, he said.
A national-level volleyball player from Uttar Pradesh, Arunima, 23, was pushed out of the Padmavat Express in Bareilly on April 11 night by three men trying to snatch her gold chain.
She lost her left leg in the incident, which took place between the Chenati and Bareilly stations when Arunima was travelling to Gautam Buddha Nagar to appear in a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) recruitment examination.
Meanwhile, cricketer Yuvraj Singh has announced Rs.1 lakh in monetary help to Arunima.
Yuvraj described Arunima as a “brave sportsperson” and wished her a speedy recovery.
“It is really unfortunate and tragic what has happened to Arunima. I know the loss is irreparable, but I would like to offer her this little contribution of Rs. 1 lakh,” said a statement issued by Yuvraj Singh Foundation.
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has also offered Rs. 1 lakh to her.
“I got to know this news through a friend and I really feel for the young girl. Her life is ahead of her and as a sportsman it's our responsibility to help her. I would like to tell Arunima that she should not lose heart and champions like her will overcome all the obstacles. I offer this small token of help and wish her all the very best in life,” Harbhajan said.
