Arunima case: NCW seeks report from U.P.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought an action taken report from the Uttar Pradesh government in connection with the accident involving national-level sports person Arunima Sinha, who was thrown off a moving train by some robbers in Bareilly resulting in dismemberment of her leg.

NCW acting chairperson Yasmeen Abrar expressed satisfaction over the Railways and Sports Ministries offering the victim a job as well as rehabilitation that includes an artificial limb and Rs.2 lakh for her treatment.

‘Jaipur Foot'

Ms. Sinha can now walk once again with a Jaipur-based NGO deciding to provide her with a ‘Jaipur Foot' free of cost.

“Arunima [Sinha] would be equipped with the ‘Jaipur Foot' free of cost and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti would provide free boarding and lodging to Arunima and her family members. We will also bear the cost of their travel,” an official of the samiti said.

The artificial limb costs around Rs. 1,551.
