Even as it is all set to file a voluminous charge sheet in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested Asif Balwa and Rajeev B. Agarwal here for their alleged involvement in “money transfer” to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Kalaingar TV channel.

The two were summoned from Mumbai and arrested after their alleged non-cooperation during questioning, sources in the CBI said.

The duo will be produced before a designated court here on Wednesday.

Asif is the younger brother of the former Managing Director of DB-Etislat group, Shahid Balwa, who was arrested last month by the CBI. Mr. Balwa's association with the underworld is being investigated separately. The Balwa brothers were working as directors of erstwhile Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Private Ltd., whose name was later changed to Kusegaon Realty. The company allegedly acted as a go-between in the transfer of Rs.200 crore to Cineyug, an amount that was later transferred to Kalaingar TV, the sources said. With the latest arrests, the number of people taken into custody in the case has gone up to six, andincludes the former Telecom Minister A. Raja; his personal aide R.K. Chandolia; and the former Telecom Secretary, Siddartha Behura. Before their arrests, the CBI conducted searches on Monday night at the premises of Dynamic Realty, Kusegaon Realty and Cineyug in Mumbai.
