With the result of the Lohaghat seat being announced on Wednesday, the BJP’s tally in the Uttarakhand Assembly elections rose to 57.
Re-polling was held in the Karnkarayat booth in the constituency as an EVM had malfunctioned on the original day of polling.
Puran Singh Fartyal won the seat, defeating the Congress candidate by 834 votes.
In the final tally, the BJP has 57 seats and the Congress 11. Two seats went to Independents.
The Congress has been left without a leader in the State after the outgoing Chief Minister, Harish Rawat, was defeated in Haridwar Rural and Kichha.
In the BJP, the current challenge is that of deciding a Chief Minister. Sources said Chaubattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaj, Pithoragarh MLA Prakash Pant and Doiwala MLA Trivendra Singh Rawat were being considered.
The decision would be announced in a day or two, BJP sources said.
