June 22, 2016 02:40 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:22 pm IST - Kolkata:

The Army’s Eastern Command launched its official Twitter handle, “@EasternCommand_IA”, on Tuesday.

The launch is part of an initiative towards using social media for greater interaction between the armed forces and the citizens.

“Eastern Command on Twitter is a welcome step for constructive interaction with citizens of our country,” Lt. Gen. Praveen Bakshi, the Army Commander, said in the first tweet.

General S. Roy Choudhary, former Chief of Army Staff, commended the move, and said the Twitter handle would “provide a channel for interaction, communication and feedback” between the soldiers and “the larger environment outside”.
