Thousands of devotees thronged the district headquarters town and offered ‘puja’ to goddess Nadibazar Veedhi Gangamma Thalli, a specially made idol with clay, as a part of the week-long Gangamma Jatara, on Tuesday.

In the early hours, the hereditary dharmakarta of the festival and former MLA C.K. Babu initiated the puja, followed by ‘ambali’ ritual (made of rice, ragi and curd). From dawn to late at night, devotees took part in the ‘ambali’ ritual, pouring it into the barrels kept near the deity, before collecting some part from the giant vessel.

The jatara will conclude on Wednesday evening with immersion of the idol of the goddess at Kattamanchi tank, preceded by various feats.

The Shakti temples at Obanapalle, Santhapeta, Doddipalle, Murakambattu, Girimpeta and Kondareddy Palle localities in and around Chittoor town witnessed jataras simultaneously at their respective areas.
