The executive committee of the Andhra Cricket Association in a meeting here on Monday decided to name the ACA-VDCA cricket stadium in Visakhapatnam as ‘Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium’.

ACA president Gokaraju Ganga Raju told reporters that the decision was taken in honour of the late Chief Minister, who was an avid supporter of the game in the State. “More number of international matches will be held in the Vizag stadium and they will be beamed all over the world. The name of Dr. YSR will always linger in the minds of lakhs of viewers all over the world for generations to come,” he said.

As a mark of respect to the late Chief Minister, the ACA will also organise an all-India invitation tournament named after him in the Y.S. Raja Reddy ACA Cricket Stadium coming up in Kadapa. “We have already written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking affiliation to the tournament. We are keen on allotting a substantial amount as prize money to this annual event,” he disclosed.

Mr. Ganga Raju said that the work on the Kadapa stadium was in full swing and the playfield will be ready by the end of the year. “When we approached Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy with the proposal to build a stadium in the name of his father, he readily agreed and donated Rs. 50 lakh from his father’s trust. The stadium will be completed with a budget of Rs. 6 crore,” he said.
