The irrigation authorities have lifted 12 crest gates of Nagarjunasagar dam on Monday evening to let 1.55 lakh cusecs of water flow down to Pulichinthala irrigation project down stream Krishna.
As the reservoir attained Full Reservoir Level (FRL) on Monday morning, the authorities have lifted five crest gates to five feet level initially and then they lifted three more crest gates few hours later.
In the evening, the officials have lifted four more crest gates taking the total number to 12 following increased inflows from Srisailam reservoir upstream.
The crest gates of largest masonry dam were lifted for the first time during the season as poor rainfall was recorded through out June, July and August.
Last year, the irrigation authorities have lifted the crest gates on August 7. Meanwhile, the reservoir is receiving 1.43 lakh cusecs inflows from Srisailam.
Tourists A large number of tourists have visited vintage points of Sagar dam from both Guntur and Nalgonda districts to watch the river Krishna in full flow.
The sources have said the crest gates of Nagarjunasagar will remain open even on Tuesday too as the Srisailam reservoir continues to receive heavy inflows from upstream Jurala.
