August 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:53 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Investigation into Eamcet-II question paper leakage case took a bizarre turn on Friday when a DSP and a Head Constable of CID – the agency probing the case- were suspended on charge of extorting Rs. 1 lakh and demanding another Rs one lakh from one G Venkatesh, a suspect in the Eamcet case. An order from the Additional DGP’s (Law & order) office on Friday said that disciplinary proceedings are contemplated against the duo.

As part of investigation into the sensational case that forced students to prepare for Eamcet a third time, CID officials had been picking up several suspects for the past few days. A special team led by DSP Balu Jadhav and head constable Sadashiva Rao detained a person in Vijayawada two days ago.

The DSP allegedly threatened to put the suspect behind bars and demanded money. He and the constable collected Rs 1 lakh and let off the suspect. As the information reached higher- ups, an inquiry was ordered. Based on the findings, they were suspended.
