Three struck dead by lightning in Vizag

Victims include two students

At least three persons, including two youngsters, died and two were injured during thunderstorm and lightning activity in Visakhapatnam district on Monday evening.

P. Hemanth and N. Pawan Kumar, both 18 and residents of Vissannapeta under Kasimkota mandal along with a few others had gone to Sampathpuram area under the Anakapalle Rural police station limits to play cricket when thunderstorm lashed the area. Hemanth and Pawan Kumar took shelter under a tree and were struck by lightning. Two persons received injuries.

The police and the revenue officials said both the deceased were senior Intermediate students. In another incident near Govada area under the Chodavaram police station limits, a shepherd was struck dead by lightning while he was returning home from the farm. The police shifted the bodies to the government hospital for post-mortem.
