The Telugu Desam Party Nellore district unit unanimously resolved that the Central government fulfil all the promises made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 to ensuring justice to the five crore people of the new State.
The leaders, who spoke on the occasion, reiterated their demand for the conferment of special status on AP in accordance with the assertions of MPs belonging to different political parties in the Lok Sabha at the time of the passage of the Reorganisation Bill.
In the resolution, the TDP district leaders asserted that it would be only with the fulfilment of such promises like special status that AP could rise to gain a level-playing field on a par with the neighbouring states of Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
The ruling party leaders also made a specific mention of the need for developing the newly created capital city of Amaravati as one of the most forward-looking international cities with all the required facilities and amenities. The mini Mahanadu was conducted in the presence of TDP State general secretary Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, in-charge Minister Sidda Raghava Rao, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and other leaders.
TDP district president Beeda Ravichandra presided over the meeting, while former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, former MLA Mungamuru Sridhar Krishna Reddy and others were present. At the outset, the leaders garlanded a bust of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao.
The other demands made on the occasion were related to the welfare and development of backward classes, SC, STs and minority communities with increased focus on the programmes concerned. The leaders said that greater fillip should be given to the smart village and smart ward concept as this would help in improving basic amenities and facilities in both rural and urban areas in the new State.
