The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders staged a dharna on apron of Prakasam Barrage here on Tuesday demanding the government to release water into irrigation canals.

On the occasion, Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said that the officials have released hundreds of cusecs of water into sea. The government has no proper planning.

Thirteen lakh acres would have got irrigation waters if the water was not let out into the sea. The agricultural fields were turning into fallow lands due to mis-governance and improper planning, he said, adding, the government was requested to release water immediately and save the Krishna delta.

TDP Urban president K. Nagul Meera, former MLC Y.V.B. Rajendraprasad and others were present.

The police arrived at the spot after news spread that the TDP leaders were staging a dharna.
