Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department on Monday issued an order No. 15, constituting Machilipatnam Area Development Authority (MADA) with jurisdiction of 426.16 square kilometres under Andhra Pradesh Urban Areas (Development) Act 1975.
According to the order issued by Principal Secretary to State government R. Karikal Valaven, the MADA will be headquartered at Machilipatnam.
Visionary policies
“The State government has a vision on Sagara Mala and Port Policy. According to these policies, each port on the coast shall have Coastal Economic Region with jurisdiction over land use planning and development in port proximal area surrounding 10 kilometres radius to 30 kilometres radius of the port,” reads the order.
The jurisdiction of MADA spans 426.16 square kilometres including Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation, 28 Revenue villages; 27 villages of Machilipatnam mandal and one village in Pedana mandal in Krishna district with a total population of nearly 2,41,207.
The G.O. stated that the modalities for development of lands, preparation of master plan and zonal development plans, acquisition and disposal of land, inspection and penalties would be in compliance with the Andhra Pradesh Urban Area (Development) Act 1975. The MADA will consist of eight members from the State Government. Principal Secretary/Secretary to Government dealing with Municipal Administration and Urban Development will be its Chairman. Its jurisdiction extends to the area earmarked for Machilipatnam port and Machilipatnam Industrial Corridor.
