A special art exhibition with the works of the students of city-based Vamsi Lalitakala Kovela on the sidelines of the ongoing ‘Sampradaya Samskrutika Vaibhavam’ music and dance festival at Suryakala Mandiram here is attracting the art lovers. Of the 52 students enrolled in the art school, 15 of them have displayed their 40 works in the exhibition and the artists are readily available at their paintings to explain in detail to the audience about the nitty-gritty of their works.

“I can complete the work in 12 hours if I can sit at a stretch. But, I took one week to finish this by spending two hours a day on it,” says eight-year-old K. Priyatam, enthusiastically explaining about his pencil works. A student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Priyatam attends the drawing classes thrice a week and participates in all the art competitions without fail.

“I have tried my hand in pencil art and water colours as well,” says 13-year-old Bhavana whose water paint of a classical danseuse was the cynosure of all eyes. People who are attending the classical music and dance festival being organised by the Abhyudaya Foundation in the Suryakala Mandiram Auditorium are visiting the exhibition and interacting with the budding artists.

“I have been promoted to oil colours now. I am trying my hand in experiment art, which is a blend of traditional and modern art,” says Maya, a student of graduation while showing her work of Lord Krishna. “It takes a couple of weeks to complete the oil works. Generally, we work simultaneously on two works,” she says. Principal of the art school K. Vamsi Mohan says their students are happy about the exhibition, as they got a chance to interact with the audience. “Students are coming forward to display their works here. The exhibition is on till January 7, the last date of the music and dance festival,” he explains.

“We don’t know an art school exists in the city unless we have visited this exhibition. The works are really good and the children need a pat,” says G. Srikrishnadevarayalu, an art lover.
