Singapore team’s capital Master Plan ahead of schedule

Delegation expresses satisfaction over voluminous data provided by State government. The State government will be sending 30 members, basically field-level officers from Town Planning and other departments for training from January 19 to 23.

The visiting Singapore delegation comprising government representatives collected data on various aspects of the capital region during its interaction with Collectors of Krishna and Guntur districts here on Thursday.

Representatives of the Centre for Liveable Cities and International Enterprises Corporation, government of Singapore, expressing satisfaction over the voluminous data provided by the State government, said they were confident of submitting the Master Plan well in six months.

Interestingly, the Singapore delegation will not charge any fee for preparing the Master Plan for the capital city, as it has taken up the task at the request of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who enjoys the good will of the Singapore government, according to Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana.

Mr. Narayana said the Singapore delegation had first met the Collectors of Krishna and Guntur districts and sought details pertaining to land, floods, earth quakes, hills, temples, Wakf Board and soil quality, spanning over the last 500 years as inputs for the Master Plan.

It then met Principal Secretaries and Commissioners of Transport and R&B, Irrigation, Revenue, Electricity, Police, Intelligence, Tourism, Endowments and Planning departments and collected specific data on Guntur and Krishna districts and general data about the rest of the State.

Satisfied with the details, the team said they would provide their plan of action within a week.

Mr. Narayana said the delegation had sought information about as many as 70 issues, and the government could provide 95 per cent of it, while the remaining topographic data would be collected from the ISRO and the National Remote Sensing Agency . The State has also got clearance from the Centre before signing the MoU with the Singapore government for preparing the Master Plan.

He added that no sensitive information was sought by the visiting team.

The State government will be sending 30 members, basically field-level officers from Town Planning and other departments for training from January 19 t 23. The team requested the senior officials to identify the officers for training and send the list in a week.

A working committee - three officials each from Singapore and Andhra Pradesh – will also be constituted including Capital Region Development Authority Special Commissioner Srikanth for regular interaction on the Master Plan.
