Service to link Aadhaar cards with EPIC launched

The Election Commission has identified 1.88 crore entries in voters’ lists in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States as duplicate, ineligible, dead and shifted cases.

Chief Electoral Officers for AP and Telangana Bhanwar Lal said in a statement on Thursday that the number of such voters was 94,56,415 in AP and 93,22,476 in Telangana. They comprised 25.54 per cent and 33.74 per cent of the total electors in the two States, respectively.

He announced launching of service to link Aadhaar cards with electronic photo identity cards (EPIC) of voters free of cost in all eseva, meeseva and aponline centres in the two States from Thursday. He asked all the electors who had not linked their Aadhaar number with their voter ID to avail the services and get the linking done.

In AP, Aadhaar was already seeded with 2,66,07,371 out of 3,70,31,793 total electors, though 2,74,57,360 Aadhaar numbers were collected.
