Senior officials meet probe panel

Senior officials of the district administration called on the committee headed by retired IAS officer S. Subramaniyam probing the suicide of Mondi Rishiteswari on ANU canmpus on Friday.

Inspector General of Police, Guntur, N. Sanjay, Collector Kantilal Dande, and Superintendent of Police Sarva Sresth Tripathi called on the committee at ANU guest house and briefed them of the measures being taken to prevent incidents of ragging on the campus.

The IGP later told reporters they had recommended to the university authorities to provide ID cards to all students, put up solar fencing around hostels, setup CCTV cameras on the university campus and install solar lighting. The senior officials also told the committee that all first year students should be housed in a separate hostel, resident wardens should be appointed in all hostels and suggested that regular cultural events should be held to instil a spirit of camaraderie on the campus sharply divided on the recent spate of incidents in the aftermath of suicide of Rishiteswari.
