A day-long interactive workshop on ‘Enriching Indian Railways through a New Management Philosophy’ was held on Saturday, in which six divisions — Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded — took part.

Balaji Reddie, an expert on the works and teachings of the eminent management thinker Dr. W. Edwards Deming, conducted the workshop which saw participation of senior officials of South Central Railway.

SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav emphasised on the positive changes taking place in Indian Railways and stated that there was a need to apply new knowledge for the changes to happen.

Elaborating on the Deming Management Philosophy, he said that the Japanese attribute their phenomenal progress to application of Deming philosophy and this philosophy has transformed every organisation which has adopted it.

Mr. Reddie focussed on understanding the essence of a new management philosophy so as to enable changes in the management approach.“This will help reduce conflicts and losses; enhance cooperation, reduce waste of resources, wrong blame of credit, bring about all-round improvement at a rapid pace and create an environment in which intrinsic motivation thrives,” he pointed out. He also interacted with the participants of the workshop and shared inputs of the Deming Management Philosophy which can vitally contribute to enrich Indian Railways.

Mr John Thomas, Additional General Manager, Divisional Railway Managers and Principal Heads of Departments were present.
