Pomp and gaiety marked the inaugural of the annual Brahmotsavams at the TTD-run Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple here on Monday.

The sacred flag was hoisted atop the temple flag post at the glittering ‘Dhwajarohanam’ ceremony held at the ancient temple between 9.20 am and 10 am when ‘Karkataka Lagnam’ was in vogue, considered to be an auspicious time as per Hindu almanac. The sacred yellow cloth with the imprint of Garuda, the celestial carrier of Lord Maha Vishnu, was carried in a procession around the temple and hoisted atop the ‘Dhwaja Sthambham’, amid chanting of Vedic hymns and beating of traditional percussion instruments and cymbals and rhythmic blowing of the wind pipe.

TTD Chairman Chadalawada Krishnamurthy, Executive Officer D.Sambasiva Rao and Joint Executive Officer Pola Bhaskar took part in the religious fete.
