The government has cleared the establishment of a Science City in Tirupati, which will have innovation centres, educational and research institutes, and museums.

It will be a hub for interdisciplinary science and technological research, with centres in Tirupati, Amaravati, and Visakhapatnam.

Each science centre will have a science museum, a research and development innovation centre, and a convention centre.

The first science centre/museum will be developed in Tirupati. The establishment of a Science City is a collaboration between the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of India and the Government of A.P. It is aimed to develop it as a model facility spread in about 107 acres, for which a sum of ₹100 crore has been sanctioned initially. The Science City consists of a museum of arts and sciences; air, space and defence museum; children’s museum; planetarium with IMAX theatre; media museum; human evolution museum; and anthropology and indoor rainforest museum.
