Miraculous escape for 40 school students near Ongole

An alert driver of a private school saved the lives of 40 school students by avoiding a head-on collision with a lorry whose driver took an u-turn all of a sudden on the the Chennai-Kolkata highway at Thuravaganta, near here on Monday.

The bus driver, Mallaiah(56) sustained serious injuries when he swerved the bus to the extreme left and as a result the bus plunged into a road-side ditch, said Taluka police in-charge circle Inspector Deva Prabakar. However, all the students going to a private school at Cloughpet escaped unhurt. The bus driver was rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.

The city traffic police led by Deputy Superitendent of Police(Traffic) J.Ram Babu in a swift operation retrieved the bus using a proclainer.
