Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of late Andhra Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is likely to be one of the star campaigners for the ruling Congress in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections scheduled to be held next month.
“He (Jagan Mohan Reddy) will campaign. He is part of the Congress party,” D Nagender, state Health Minister and party’s GHMC unit president, told reporters here.
The supporters of Rajasekhara Reddy projected Jagan Mohan Reddy as the successor to his father but the Congress high command shot the proposal down.
Mr. Jagan, as he is popularly known, had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi earlier this month after which he said his future role in Congress would be decided by her.
The GHMC polls would be the first litmus test for Congress and Chief Minister K Rosaiah after the death of Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy.
As per the schedule announced on Wednesday, the nominations for the GHMC polls can be filed from October 31 to November six. They will be scrutinised on November seven and the last date for withdrawal is November 10. Polling would take place on November 23 and counting would be taken up on November 26.
