Water matters: Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao at the sub-surface dam at Vempalle in Kadapa district on Thursday.

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has accused YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of posing hurdles to the TDP government which is going all out to develop Kadapa district.

The Minister released water from Chitravathi balancing reservoir to the Lingala branch canal on Thursday and inspected a sub-surface dam completed at Vempalle in Pulivendula constituency at a cost of ₹6.25 crore. An anicut was built across the Papaghni river with the modern sheet file technology with an outlay of ₹26.36 crore and sub-surface dams were being built in Chakrayapet and Pendlimarry mandals, he added.

Flaying Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Minister said the Opposition leader never proposed a surface dam across the Papaghni river in his constituency. The government was developing Pulivendula constituency on the lines of other areas in the State, Mr. Umamaheswar Rao asserted. The State government was committed to farmers’ welfare, he added.

Minister for Agriculture S. Chandramohan Reddy, Minister for Marketing C. Adinarayana Reddy, Rajya Sabha member C.M. Ramesh, MLC Mareddy Ravindranath Reddy, and others were present.
