May 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KURNOOL:

YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has lost the moral right to continue as Leader of the Opposition, Major Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, the Minister accused Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy of promoting destructive politics.

‘Protest a farce’

He termed the opposition leader’s proposed protest in Kurnool as nothing but farce.

While YSR Congress leaders were bagging contracts in the irrigation projects taken up by the Telangana Government, their president announced a protest in Kurnool against the projects.

“Mr. Jagan’s double standards stand exposed,” Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said.

Inspects reservoir

The Irrigation Minister said that the Gorakallu reservoir work would be completed by June-end to impound water in it. He inspected the reservoir near Gorakallu in Panyam mandal.

Farmers were facing hardship as not a drop of water was released to the Srisailam Right Branch Canal, owing to depletion in the water level in the Srisailam reservoir to below the 800-ft. mark, he said.

On completion of the Gorakallu reservoir, farmers could raise two crops in kharif without depending on water release from the Srisailam reservoir, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said.

TDP district vice-president Pulla Reddy, SE Subbarayudu, and ZPTC member Narayanamma were present.
