Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “pro-corporate and anti-poor,” national secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) K. Narayana on Sunday wondered how the currency notes issued by the Reserve Bank could become invalid following a statement from the Prime Minister.
“The government has failed to follow a proper system while implementing demonetisation. It is keen on favouring the corporate sector and black money holders at the cost of the common man,” he said at a press conference here on the sidelines of the party workers’ meeting.
Mr. Narayana highlighted the need for making Monday’s bandh against demonetisation a grand success. “Demonetisation is nothing but a scam to help the corporate firms and bigwigs, with the help of whom the BJP was voted to power. Banks are closing their shutters for the common man and handing over the new currency notes to the affluent and firms through the back door,” he said, adding that absence of sincerity was visible in the entire episode, and that was why the Prime Minister had been evading questions from MPs in Parliament.
