The GD Nellore police on Saturday took a youth, working as a government teacher, into custody on the very first day of his marriage with a 20-year-old woman, on charges of physical assault on her. The incident was reported from Chinnatamara Gunta village of the mandal.

Rajesh (27) of adjoining Mothuranganapalle village of the same mandal got married on Friday morning, and the post-marriage function was arranged at the bride’s village. After midnight of Friday, the bride allegedly came running out of the room with bleeding injuries, having been lacerated with a blade. She also bore injuries in the eye, and burn marks all over the body with cigarette butts. The girl was rushed to the Government Hospital at Chittoor, and her condition is said to be serious. It is alleged that the man behaved in a maniacal manner with the girl, after she reportedly informed her parents and in-laws that he was suffering from impotency. A case has been registered.
