‘Govt. supplying spurious groundnut seed’

The groundnut seed being supplied by the State government lacked quality and failed to germinate in Thondur mandal of Kadapa district, YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy asserted on Wednesday.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy inspected the groundnut crop that failed to germinate in Inagalur village of the district.

Accusing the Government of supplying spurious seed to the farmers, he demanded that quality seed be supplied free of cost to the farmers by July 15, as monsoon was likely to be active till September.

The opposition party leader apprised District Collector K.V. Satyanarayana of the need to supply quality groundnut seed to the farmers of the mandal.

The seed was sown about a fortnight ago and the situation similar all over the mandal.

Dharna

He told mandal agricultural officials that farmers would stage dharna if they were not supplied quality seed by July 15.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said that he would take part in the protest and espouse the cause of the farmers if the seed was not supplied by that date.

Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy and party activists took part.
