Leader of Opposition in Assembly Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday criticised the government for making the Governor utter falsehood about its so-called achievements.
Reacting to Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of legislature, Mr. Reddy said there was neither a sense of direction nor clarity on how the government would address problems like severe financial crunch, the revenue deficit and funds for the capital.
There was ambiguity in the Governor’s speech, he said, pointing out that in the beginning he expressed concern that the residuary State of AP was in a bad fiscal shape. However, towards the end, he said the State had already registered significant growth in sectors like agriculture.
Mr. Narasimhan expressing confidence that by the year 2029, AP would be No. 3 State in the country was a “”hollow claim”, he said.
YSR Congress MLA Y. Visveswara Reddy (Uravakonda) regretted that there was no clarity in the Governor’s speech about special status and package for AP.
“Even in the Union budget, there was no mention about what it would mean to AP. There has been no talk of how the government wants to bring pressure on Delhi. Government should take the Opposition and all sections of society into confidence and jointly fight with the Central government,” he said.
Other issues on which the speech lacked clarity were about the loan waiver and the financial package promised together with the special category status.
“In nine months, the government did nothing to extract them from Centre,” the YSRC MLA said.
Demand rejected
Meanwhile, the demand voiced by Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy that he be allotted separate time, apart from what is allotted to his colleagues, to participate in the debates in the Assembly, was stated to have been rejected by Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao on the ground that there was no precedent.
At the Assembly Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held here, Mr. Reddy raised the issue and pointed out separate time was earmarked for the Chief Minister to speak, exclusive of the time granted to Ministers.
