Andhra Pradesh BC Mahasabha members picketed the office of the District Backward Classes Welfare Officer here on Tuesday and demanded winding up of the corporation, which they alleged, was not serving the interests of BCs.
The State Government was meting out a step-motherly treatment towards BCs, BC Mahasabha State convenor Avvaru Mallikarjuna alleged. The Government directed disbursement of loans through banks and not through the BC Corporation, issue of caste and income certificates in e-seva centres, issued G.O. 101 reducing the age limit for loanees and stipulated submission of transfer certificates for ascertaining the age of beneficiaries, he alleged while addressing the protesters.
Condemning the guidelines, Mr. Mallikarjuna alleged that it was the Government’s ploy to deprive BCs of loans. Maintaining that the BC Corporation was no longer useful for ensuring the welfare of BCs, he demanded that it be wound up.
Mr. Mallikarjuna, district convenor P.V. Ramana, assistant convenor G.V. Subramanyam, Kadapa parliamentary unit convenor S. Bhaskar, constituency unit convenor N. Penchalaiah and members J.V. Ramana and K. Munaiah submitted a memorandum to the Executive Director of BC Corporation Pratibha Bharathi.
