Tamil Nadu Governor Konijeti Rosaiah on Tuesday said that quality education was the need of the hour to ensure overall development of children, while expressing concern over giving marks generously to the students in all exams.
He said that earlier students used to struggle to get first class, but the students of the present generation were able to get almost 100 per cent in all subjects. He indicated that scoring of high marks in every subject would not help students in the future.
Mr. Rosaiah inaugurated Sarvani Vidyalayam in Narasannapeta of Srikakulam district. He expressed happiness over the improvement of allocations in the budget for education. “Previous governments could allocate only meagre funds in those days due to financial constraints. In the changed scenario, the governments also enhanced the budget to meet the aspirations of parents,” he said. “There should be a yardstick for standards in the education. Then only, the very purpose of education is achieved. Of late, many convent schools are being established in rural and semi-urban areas also. Teaching standards have to be improved,” he added.
Former Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said that parents were keen on English education to ensure decent life for their kids but they were failing to teach skills related to real life. He said bookish knowledge would not help students in their life.
Former Municipal chairperson A.V. Narasimham, Sarvani Vidyalayam founder Andhavarapu Suribabu and others participated in the meeting. Earlier, Mr. Rosaiah was given a rousing reception at R&B Bungalow in Srikakulam.
Srikakulam MP K. Rammohan, Srikakulam Collector P. Lakshmi Narasimham, Srikakulam SP J. Brahama Reddy and others formally greeted the Governor. Mr. Rosaiah has also visited Anuraga Nilayam, an orphanage built on the R&B Bungalow premises. He interacted with students there and made suggestions for its maintenance.
