Reiterating that he is not hankering for the Prime Minister’s post, Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu has exuded confidence that the successor to the BJP-led NDA government in 2019 would be the one the TDP desires.
Speaking on the resolution on ‘A.P. Reorganisation Act - Prime Minister’s assurances in Parliament, implementation of Special Category Status (SCS) and Central government’s negligence’ at the Mahanadu here on Sunday, Mr. Naidu said he would continue the fight for SCS and other promises made at the time of bifurcation. If the Central government did not fulfil them before elections, Mr. Naidu said he would seek the cooperation of the regional parties, visit all the States, and garner the support of the national parties, and wage a fight against the injustice meted to A.P.
Stating that he was offered the post of the Prime Minister twice during the United Front regime, Mr. Naidu said he had rejected the offer on both the occasions as he accorded top priority to the protection of State’s interests. Mr. Naidu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi might have kept in mind his condemnation of the Godhra carnage.
The resolution was moved by Guntur MP Galla Jayadev and supported by his counterpart from Machilipatnam, K. Narayana Rao. Mr. Jayadev said Mr. Modi must have realised that those who do not fulfil their promises would pay a price as evident from the consequences the BJP had to face for taking people for a ride in Karnataka.
Mr. Modi gave several assurances to A.P. and most of them were brushed aside, Mr. Jayadev added.
