The Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) caught four fake pensioners, who had allegedly been drawing pension for the last 12 years, in the district on Tuesday.

The vigilance officials filed cases against three other fake pensioners in the Vuyyur police station and one in Avanigadda division.

All the accused were women aged above 70, said Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer (RVEO) M. Ravindranath Babu.

“A retired headmaster, Panchangam Ramanuja Charyulu, created fake service registers of some persons and managed to get pension for his wife, sister, niece and another woman. We have information on a few more cases and we are inquiring into their documents. The accused were drawing ₹30,000 and above since 2005,” the RVEO told The Hindu .

Connivance

During investigation, the officials found connivance of some officials in sanctioning the pensions.

The accused drew more than ₹1 crore in the last 12 years.

‘Three arrested’

“Of the four accused, three were arrested by Vuyyur police. One of the accused, Parchuri Vijaya Lakshmi, obtained ₹2 lakh loan from a bank on the fake pension papers. So far we unearthed the fake pensions racket in Challapalli and Vuyyuru mandals and investigation is on,” Mr. Ravindranath Babu said.
