An elderly couple committed suicide by consuming poison at Murikipudi in Chilakaluripet mandal on Thursday morning, allegedly after a tiff with their son.
The Police registered a case under Section 174 of Cr.P.C, considering it as a suspicious case. They were investigating into the reports that the couple ended their lives after an alleged altercation with their son over cricket betting.
According to police, Chennupati Haribabu (60) and Nagendramma (53) reportedly warned their son Ch Srihari, against indulging in betting. Unconfirmed report said the parents and son had an altercation on Wednesday night. The couple went to their fields on Thursday morning and consumed poison there. Locals, who found the couple lying dead, informed the police.
SI (Chilakaluripet Rural Police) Jagadish said the betting angle was yet to be proved and there was no preliminary evidence to ascertain that the couple ended their lives after the altercation with their son.
