Dusserah festival was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Andhra Pradesh today.

People visited temples in Banjara Hills, Secunderabad, Lal Darwaza and Balakampet and other parts of Hyderabad and district to offer prayers as part of “Vijaya Dashmi” celebrations.

Arrangements were underway by temple authorities to conduct “shammi puja” on the occasion.

Officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) offered ’Pattu Vastra’ to Goddess Kanakadurga at Kanakadurga temple atop Indra Keelahadri hillock in Vijayawada.

The festival was also celebrated with religious fervour in Tirupati in Chittoor district, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam and other districts, the reports said.

Serpentine queues were witnessed outside several temples and Durga Devi pandals where special poojas were conducted.

As part of the “shammi pooja”, people will also visit temples in evening and exchange traditional jowar and patri leaves with each other as greetings.
