Director General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao has appreciated the functioning of the command control unit set up by the Tirupati Urban police, which has become a model for several police districts to emulate.
Mr. Rao, who is here to review the security situation ahead of the Tirumala Srivari Brahmotsavam, visited the unit on Sunday along with Inspector General of Police (Rayalaseema) S. Sridhar Rao, Deputy Inspector General (Anantapur range) J. Prabhakar Rao and Superintendent of Police R. Jayalakshmi.
As the nine-day Brahmotsavam could leave the temple city and the hill town bursting at its seams, the top official instructed the district police not to leave anything to chance.
He advised the extensive usage of technology in the form of CCTV cameras at vantage points to monitor the movement of people, especially strangers, and keep track of professional and habitual offenders.
Apart from crime control, the system could also be used to curb traffic violations by levying hefty fines.
Mr. Rao learnt about the crime cases busted so far with the help of the command control unit, even while suggesting to Ms. Jayalakshmi to give introduction of e-challan system a serious thought.
Offers prayers at Tirumala
Mr. Sambasiva Rao offered prayers at the Sri Venkateswara temple on the hill shrine of Tirumala here on Sunday. TTD Joint Executive Officer K.S. Sreenivasa Raju and temple priests received Mr. Sambasiva Rao at the temple entrance and ushered him into the shrine.
