Defections: YSRC approaches SC

: The YSR Congress has approached the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of 17 MLAs who defected to the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

The party had filed a petition in the apex court seeking directions to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to take decision on the disqualification petitions filed by the party against the defected MLAs.

The party, according to sources, decided to take to legal recourse in the light of the “inaction” of the Chair in taking a speedy decision on the issue.

Sources said the YSRC took a cue from the recent judgment of the apex court barring the defected MLAs of the Uttarakhand Assembly from casting their vote in the no-confidence motion moved against the government. The party is hopeful that the case would be listed for hearing by the apex court soon.
