The Chittoor police on Saturday launched an impressive cycle rally to mark the ongoing Road Safety Week, with the participation of District Collector Siddarth Jain, Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas and District Judge Vijay Kumar.
About 500 cops converged at the District Police Office (DPO) in the early hours, in addition to an impressive number of general public. The cycle rally led by the three officials was flagged off by Additional SP Annapurna Reddy from the Parade Grounds. The rally passed trough the arterial junctions of Gandhi Bomma Centre, MSR Circle and other areas. A large number of youth joined the rally en route.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Srinivas said that the cycle rally was organised to create awareness in the public regarding the inevitability of road safety measures. “We have launched a drive to sensitise public regarding traffic rules and road safety norms. We are getting positive results,” he said.
The official further said that the youth should take the lead in heralding a new wave of awareness on road safety measures. He said that digital surveillance programme for Chittoor corporation was under way and this would go a long way in streamlining traffic in several vital junctions.
