A convict in a theft case allegedly made an attempt on the lives of two lifers convicted for murder by slitting their throat with a razor in Kadapa Central Prison on Friday night.

Theft case accused H. Swamulu, 32, of Kondareddy Nagar in Bangarupet in Kurnool, allegedly picked up a razor and slit the throats of Narasappa, 34, of Devunikuntla village in Kurnool district, and Sankaraiah, 40, of Nimmalapoolakunta village in Kadiri mandal of Anantapur district, according to deputy superintendent of Kadapa Central Prison Venkataraju. Swamulu also stabbed Narasappa in his abdomen.

Aghast at the attack after the three convicts washed their hands after dinner, the prison staff rushed the two injured convicts to RIMS hospital in Kadapa with bleeding injuries. Swamulu was lodged alone in a room as he was allegedly mentally unsound. He might have picked up a blade or a piece of iron when he was let out of the room for dinner, Mr. Venkataraju said.

The police registered a case on receiving complaints from the two injured convicts and launched an investigation.
