Setting a new tradition for the district officials, Warangal Municipal Corporation Commissioner, M. M. Naik went door-to-door learning the problems faced by residents in the town.
In view of the increasing complaints about shortage of drinking water and overflowing drains and poor sanitation, the Commissioner decided interact with the residents, particularly the women, in the colonies.
Accompanied by the officials, corporator K. Rambabu and other local public representatives, Mr. Naik on Friday visited Krishna Colony, Yadav Nagar, Hanuman Nagar and other areas.
Drinking water
When a woman complained about shortage of drinking water, the Municipal Commissioner said three new borewells had been sanctioned in the colony to meet the increased demand.
At another house, a resident complained that the streetlights were not functioning and as the result, anti-social elements were camping in dark spaces between houses and consuming alcohol. The gathering of unknown people was terrifying the residents, she said.
Mr. Naik immediately called electrical wing officials on phone and directed them to get the streetlights repaired.
The Commissioner was shocked to see the state of affairs near the Sai Baba temple and wanted the Assistant Engineer to take up drainage construction immediately.
Residents surprised
The residents were surprised by the sudden visit of the Commissioner.
They were all elated as they could meet the Municipal Commissioner directly at their doorstep. “It is a rare opportunity for the residents here.
Now, we hope things will move fast and our problems will get solved,” said local corportor K. Ramababu.
